Checking the Status of Your Social Security Disability

Mar 2, 2017 |

Applying for Social Security Disability can be a daunting and exhausting task. Once you have completed the application process, it can take time for your local Social Security office to review your claim. Waiting for the Disability Determination Services (DDS) to assess your case can be frustrating, especially if your life is on hold. The best way to get some piece of mind during the wait is by checking the status of your application. There are several ways to do that:

1)    Online
Either enter the activation code that was given to you during the application process, create an account by following the instructions or enter your login credentials if you already have an account. Once you are logged in, you can check your application status to find out the current claim location or view your claim’s decision.

2)    Automated Phone Call
Call 216-861-1234 and enter the confirmation number that was given to you when you filed your claim. The system will then give you your claim status.

3)    Local Social Security Office
Whether you filed your claim through your local Social Security office or online, you can contact your local office to speak with the disability examiner reviewing your claim. In Ohio, all claims go through Division of Disability Determination (DDD).

Once you get the status of your claim from one of the resources above, you can check where your claim stands in the process, specifically in Ohio. Keep in mind, the Social Security Administration reports that it typically takes about three to five months, or even longer, for your claim to be reviewed and a decision to be posted. By getting all of your information and necessary documents submitted as quickly as possible, you can only assist in speeding up the process.

If your Social Security Disability claim was denied, once or several times, contact the attorneys at Bentoff & Duber so we can assist you in appealing your claim.
