Accidents Caused by Drunk Drivers

When someone makes the decision to drink to excess and drive, it is a reckless, grossly irresponsible act. When drunk drivers cause accidents that injure or kill, they should be held responsible for the havoc they wreak. If you or a loved one have been injured by a drunk driver, a lawyer can help you recover the monetary damages you need to move forward.

We Will Investigate Every Avenue of Recovery

Anytime a drunk driver injures or kills someone, they are primarily responsible for the resulting damage. However, there may also be other parties that share responsibility. At Bentoff & Duber Co., L.P.A., we will find any other parties that are responsible for your injuries or loss. For instance, Ohio has a dram shop law, which prohibits restaurants, bars or other commercial establishments from serving alcohol to an obviously intoxicated person. We can closely examine the evidence to determine whether the drunk driver who caused your accident was overserved.

Ohio also has what is known as a social host law. If the drunk driver responsible for your injuries was under the age of 21 and if a host knowingly served alcohol to an underage person, the host may face civil liability. In addition to seeking damages for your medical expenses, lost income, property damage, pain and suffering, and/or wrongful death, we can also seek punitive damages in a drunk driver accident. Punitive damages are intended to punish offenders and deter others from engaging in similar conduct.
